When you sign a piece of white paper and scan it, the resulting image contains far more than just your signature. It includes the white paper background, often with slight greyish variations due to scanner calibration, and sometimes yellowish tones from aged paper. Government and institutional portals in India require signature images that are crisp, with a clean transparent or white background, within strict file size limits (typically 10–30KB). Government Portal Signature Requirements in India

• UPSC / SSC / IBPS: Signature image must be in JPG format, between 10KB and 20KB, typically at 140 × 60 pixels. The signature must be against a white background with no border.
• NTA / NEET / JEE: Scanned signature in JPG format, 10–30KB, dimensions approximately 160 × 60 pixels. Blue or black ink on white paper is recommended.
• State Government Portals (Maharashtra, UP, Rajasthan, etc.): Requirements vary but typically require signatures under 20KB in JPG format at 100–160 pixels height.
• Banking and Insurance Forms (NSDL, UTI, LIC): Signature in JPG format, under 30KB, with clean white background.
• IRCTC Registration: Signature required in JPG format under 15KB for Tatkal booking accounts.

How to Get a Perfect Signature for Online Forms

Follow this process for the cleanest digital signature:

1. Sign on plain white A4 paper using a black or dark blue pen. Avoid felt tips — they bleed. A ballpoint pen gives the cleanest scan.
2. Scan at 300 DPI or photograph with a phone camera in good daylight without flash.

Transparent Background vs White Background Signatures
