Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't the scanner detecting my QR code via the camera?

Poor lighting, glare, a blurry lens, or a highly customized QR code (low contrast) can hinder the decoding process.

Does this scanner store the URLs I scan?

No, your scan history is strictly temporary and is wiped the moment you close the browser tab.

Is it safe to scan unknown QR codes?

The scanner will safely decode the text, but you should always verify the URL before clicking any links to avoid phishing sites.

Can the tool read standard barcodes (like UPC or EAN)?

This specific tool is optimized purely for 2D matrix QR codes, not 1D retail barcodes.

Does the upload feature support scanning multiple QR codes from one image?

The decoder targets the most prominent QR code detected in the uploaded image.

Detailed Guide & Overview

QR Code Scanner: Read Any QR Code from Your Browser

Our free QR Code Scanner reads QR codes directly from your device camera or from an uploaded image file — no app installation required. It works entirely in your browser using the device's camera API and a JavaScript-based QR decoding library. The scanned content is displayed immediately and can be copied or opened as a link. This is particularly useful on desktop computers and laptops that don't have a native QR scanner in their camera app.

Types of QR Codes You Can Scan

  • URL QR Codes: Clicking opens the linked website directly
  • UPI Payment QR Codes: Displays the UPI ID, merchant name, and payment amount for manual payment initiation
  • vCard / Contact QR Codes: Shows name, phone, email, and address for easy contact saving
  • Wi-Fi QR Codes: Reveals the network SSID and password (useful when you need to manually enter the password)
  • Text QR Codes: Displays the encoded plain text message
  • Product and Inventory Barcodes: Our scanner also reads standard 1D barcodes (EAN-13, Code 128, QR Code)
  • Aadhaar QR Codes: Aadhaar cards contain a QR code encoding your digitally signed demographic information

Scanning QR Codes from Images (Screenshot or Photo)

One of the most useful features of our QR Scanner is the ability to decode QR codes from uploaded images. Common use cases:

  • Received a QR code in an email or document — screenshot and upload to our scanner
  • QR code on a product packaging — photograph and upload to view product details
  • UPI payment QR from a WhatsApp message — save the image and scan here to verify the payment details before paying
  • Verifying a QR code you generated — upload to confirm it encodes the correct information

QR Code Security: Identifying Malicious QR Codes

"QR Code phishing" (also called "Quishing") is a growing fraud technique in India where scammers print fake QR codes over legitimate ones in public places — payment terminals, restaurant menus, and petrol stations. Always verify the URL shown by a QR scanner before clicking. Our scanner shows you the full decoded URL before opening it, giving you the opportunity to inspect the destination. Be suspicious of QR codes that claim to lead to payment portals but redirect to unfamiliar domains.

UPI QR Code Verification

Before paying via UPI QR code, always verify the merchant name and UPI ID that appears after scanning. Legitimate merchants will have a VPA (Virtual Payment Address) matching their registered business name. Fraudulent QR codes often use VPAs with random characters or names that don't match the supposed merchant. Our scanner shows you the complete decoded UPI payment string so you can verify before initiating payment.
