Calculating the exact number of days, weeks, or months between two dates is surprisingly complex due to the irregular lengths of months and the occurrence of leap years. A February with 28 or 29 days, months with 30 or 31 days, and the Gregorian calendar's irregular structure make mental calculation error-prone. Our Date Difference Calculator handles all these edge cases automatically, giving you precise results in multiple units simultaneously.
Our calculator provides both calendar day count (all days including weekends and holidays) and working day count (Monday–Friday only, excluding public holidays). For professional and legal purposes, always clarify which type of days is specified. Employment notice periods in India are typically in calendar days. Court summons deadlines may be in working days. Project deadlines in corporate environments are usually in working days.
A leap year occurs every 4 years (years divisible by 4), except for century years that are not divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not. When calculating spans that cross a leap year's February, the extra day (February 29) adds 1 day to the total count. For a calculation spanning multiple years, this can add 2–3 extra days depending on how many leap years the span crosses. Our calculator accounts for all of this automatically.
India uses both the Gregorian calendar for official and commercial purposes and various traditional calendars (Hindu lunar calendar, Islamic calendar) for religious events. Our tool works with the Gregorian calendar — the same calendar used for all government, legal, and banking purposes in India. For conversions to and from traditional Indian calendar systems, you would need a specialised calendar converter.
