Understanding Leap Year Impact
A leap year occurs every 4 years (years divisible by 4), except for century years that are not divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not. When calculating spans that cross a leap year's February, the extra day (February 29) adds 1 day to the total count. For a calculation spanning multiple years, this can add 2–3 extra days depending on how many leap years the span crosses. Our calculator accounts for all of this automatically.
